Resources
From blogs, videos, podcasts and interviews, here you'll find resources that answer your questions about being an end-of-life doula.
Some people’s interest in topics related to death and dying is purely for their own understanding. This is powerful in and of itself, as we can powerfully change the world one person at a time within our own personal circles of friends and family.
The “go-to” person is that special person within a circle that people know they can turn to during serious situations.
I was sitting with a family early this morning waiting for the funeral home to arrive. The hospital was quiet and it was just the wife, daughter and I at the bedside of a man who was dearly loved and who had just died.
I understand why many of us feel lost when we are in the hospital trying to find out what is wrong with our loved one. We are trying to make sense of how extensive the disease process is, surgeries that are being discussed, and conflicting information we may be receiving. Sometimes we have great to mediocre guidance, and sometimes we have none.
I belong to the Hospice Community Forum and just had a discussion with an “11th hour volunteer”. An 11th hour volunteer is a person who sits at the bedside of the dying, usually when death is imminent or within 24 hours or so. They are very much akin to a death doula.
