Certified CareDoulas are unique
Our CareDoula® School of Accompanying the Dying is known for its comprehensive and deep exploration of all aspects of journeying with a person who is dying, as well as their family.
And, it's the type of person who chooses to train with us that really is at the heart of this beautiful role. We understand that each person who chooses to study with us has the integrity and honor we feel must be held with the people we serve.
We believe in each person's wholeness and we know that each person we are privileged to work with brings their own unique skills, gifts, and abilities; and that they have a beautiful heart of service.
It is our honor to support them as they create a private practice or program that will serve their community. Know that they have access to me for life, as well as a community in which to collaborate with and get and give feedback. They are not alone in this work.
Although they are independent, not representing QLC professionally, we are proud to work with the people truly called to this work and who have a passion to support people to die well in this modern age.
If you are here on this page, it is because someone you know is a Certified CareDoula®. Know that they have completed far more than a weekend training or brief online course. They have devoted months and over 80+ hours of study to learn the most they can and to give you the best they have.

QLC MISSION
Our mission is to reduce suffering during advanced illness and dying time by providing exceptional education, support, and resources to families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
OUR VISION
We envision a world where every person has equal access to support and comfort to die well in this modern age.
OUR VALUES
To share with you in authenticity, with laughter, tears and love, the ways of accompanying the dying.
OUR FOCUS
We focus on the time period between 'when-cure-driven-treatments-begin-to-stop-working' and bereavement.
OUR HISTORY
QLC began as an online resource center in 2005, for the purpose of reducing suffering at the end of life by providing resources, education, and support. Deanna gave presentations, wrote a blog, and provided personal end-of-life services.
She met leaders around the globe as they found each other through their education efforts in bringing peace and possibilities at the end of life (thank you Dr. Byock for that phrase).
Deanna quickly became a unifying thread between communities and educators having the same end goal.
By 2010, she had created the first End-of-Life Doula Certification Program and training for laypeople and has been working with those passionate about accompanying the dying ever since. Today, with her CareDoula School of Accompanying the Dying in its 10th year, Deanna continues to collaborate with innovative leaders and develop corporate end-of-life doula programs. She is known as a unifying energy in the industry.
